The PCO provides field investigative and administrative functions to act on disciplinary and pharmacy practice matters. The Division of Drug Control may assist the PCO with preliminary actions,
performing follow up to investigations performed and reported by the PCO. Disciplinary meetings and the triage of complaints are coordinated through the PCO with the participation of Board members at each phase. Many of the cases heard by the Board involve testimony from the PCO at the initial reporting and decision to charge stage, and also during formal hearings.
In the practice area, regulatory development and legislative recommendations on
technical matters are often coordinated with the PCO and the Pharmacy Practice Committee or other appropriate groups. Outside groups include the state and national pharmacy associations and organizations who participate in Task Forces and Work Groups authorized by the full Board or the Pharmacy Practice Committee.
The PCO functions as a source of information for consumers, professionals, and
government customers. Close interaction with Board Counsel, the Executive Director, and the Licensing Unit provides for consistent policies and procedures in the areas of licensing, including examinations, continuing education, monitoring of probation and suspensions, and in ensuring compliance with the law.
