INTERNSHIPS

1)         What are the requirements for registering as a pharmacy intern in Maryland?

At this time, the Maryland does not require interns (nor technicians) to be licensed in Maryland.  In order to work as an intern or technician, an individual may work at any pharmacy in Maryland as long as a pharmacist-in-charge signs and supervises the hours earned.

After completing intern hours, a pharmacist-in-charge or preceptor is required to complete and submit a notarized pharmacy affidavit form, which may be obtained from the Maryland Board of Pharmacy.

Applicants must obtain on State Board letterhead verification of internship hours earned outside of Maryland.  The verification must include preceptor and permit holder verification information,  as well as completion of State Board of Pharmacy Internship Certifications or other State Board internship requirements.  Applications for licensure in Maryland will not be approved for internship hours earned outside of Maryland,  until internship verification has been provided.

2)                   How many internship hours must pharmacist candidates complete to meet Maryland Board of Pharmacy licensure requirements?
